About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Calibrate, install, maintain, operate, test, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul and commission protective relay systems and associated equipment
  • Maintain substation and electric utility protection systems
  • Program and maintain automation, control, SCADA and EMS systems
  • Perform electrical power switching
  • Apply configurations to remote control and data acquisition systems
  • Plan and schedule work, including submitting clearance applications to the Operations Control Center
  • Test and commission switchgear and network relays
  • Direct and train Electrical Technician apprentices and may direct Electricians
  • Maintain and revise engineering documents and drawings in the field
  • Complete documentation, test reports, and regulatory compliance records
  • Record and file test results
  • Lift, carry, maneuver, pack and install tools, parts, equipment and materials in substations and challenging terrain
  • Operate company vehicles
  • Collaborate with other technicians while testing and installing equipment
  • Follow PG&E safety standards and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License or ability to obtain on 1st day of hire
  • Ability to work in all types of weather extremes
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds a minimum of one time a day
  • 3 year experience testing protective relay equipment in a power station or high voltage substation or electrical technician specific training and education
  • Ability to work near energized and rotating equipment and tolerate loud noises and vibrations
  • Ability to comprehend equipment labels and safety signs, learn and apply technical materials, and complete daily logs
  • Ability to travel/transfer to a new headquarter upon request
  • Ability to work on ladders and elevated structures
  • Desired: Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering OR two-year Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and two years of experience in relay and control
  • Desired: Previous Journeyman Electrical Technician experience with two or more years of experience in relay and control
  • Desired: High voltage electrical experience
  • Desired: Ability to navigate and read information in MS Word and MS Excel
  • Desired: Previous military experience in Power Production
  • May be subject to Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) review and approval
  • PG&E employees must qualify on prerequisite and secondary pre-employment tests
