About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and manage all marine operations involving boats, amphibious vehicles, and unmanned underwater vehicles
  • Collaborate with Test Directors, project managers, principal investigators, engineers, technicians, and researchers to plan and lead demonstrations, deployments, and field tests
  • Optimize vehicle performance, including propulsion, navigation, and communication systems
  • Gather project requirements and coordinate timely vehicle deployment for data collection and experimentation
  • Source and coordinate outside contractors, vendors, external partners, and subcontractors
  • Negotiate contracts and ensure quality and timely service delivery
  • Coordinate equipment movement and organize and maintain remote storage locations
  • Ensure readiness for field operations
  • Lead training on marine-platform operations and maintenance for internal teams and external organizations
  • Manage technicians and operators involved in maintenance, repair, and deployment
  • Direct shop apprentices in storage organization and general maintenance as needed
  • Develop and ensure compliance with marine safety programs, equipment, materials, and notifications
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans
  • Act as charter captain for company vessels
  • Track projects, support needs, and progress
  • Monitor operational data, performance metrics, and field feedback; implement corrective actions
  • Assist coworkers in developing seamanship and boat-handling skills
  • Schedule harbor operations; operate, deploy, retrieve, and maintain vessels
  • Maintain compliance with safety protocols and industry regulations
  • Process and maintain vessel registration documentation and records
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and maintenance records
  • Oversee development and implementation of marine-operations SOPs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Seven years related experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for four years of related experience
  • U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License
  • Strong knowledge of marine equipment, systems, and safety protocols
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively manage a team
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially in high-pressure situations
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards governing marine operations
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while working strongly with others in a team
  • Ability to self-motivate and demonstrate good time-management skills
  • Extensive experience in marine operations, particularly deployment and management of amphibious vehicles and unmanned underwater vehicles
  • Employment contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with a SECRET clearance or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance
