About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ingest all forms of media from photographers, producers, and field crews into designated servers and project environments
  • Receive and process media from memory cards, optical discs, hard drives, and other storage formats
  • Organize, label, and ingest media accurately and consistently
  • Support producers and editors by maintaining precise media organization and labeling
  • Operate broadcast routers and patch bays
  • Route signals, downlink feeds, and use routing and satellite tuning systems
  • Create pitch reels and assemble b-roll packages
  • Organize media within Avid Interplay and import assets into projects
  • Edit material on a timeline using Avid Media Composer/NewsCutter
  • Operate audio mixers and wire microphones for interviews, live shots, and studio productions
  • Run and connect audio and video cabling while maintaining engineering and production standards
  • Manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines during live and breaking news coverage, including CBS Evening News, CBS Mornings, and CBS Sunday Morning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong knowledge of broadcast routers and patch bays
  • Ability to operate routing systems, route signals, downlink feeds, and use in-house routing and satellite tuning systems
  • Working knowledge of Avid Interplay and Avid Media Composer, including NewsCutter
  • Ability to create pitch reels, assemble b-roll packages, organize media within Interplay, import assets into projects, and edit material on a timeline
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize competing deadlines, and respond to live and breaking news production demands
  • Working knowledge of professional camera systems, including Sony FX9, FX6, FX3, X400, A7S, F5, Sony prosumer cameras, GoPro, and Sony ZV-1
  • Knowledge of QuickTime, H.264, AVCHD, .MTS, MXF, and other professional broadcast file formats
  • Ability to operate professional audio equipment, including audio mixers
  • Ability to wire microphones for talent and guests
  • Ability to run and connect audio and video cabling between equipment, wall panels, and patch points
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure, deadline-driven newsroom while maintaining accuracy
  • Must meet all applicable IBEW membership requirements and join the union as a condition of employment
