About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Deliver application programming and analysis tasks within the system development process
Provide application support, maintenance and enhancements
Liaise with business units and program areas to ensure solutions meet ministry needs
Align development teams with application architecture
Write code for complex functional and technical designs with minimal defects
Define non-functional requirements including performance, availability, portability and recoverability
Assess technical impacts and recommend improved application designs
Produce technical designs, database structures and application architecture for moderately to highly complex applications
Advocate reuse of existing components and frameworks
Review technical designs and recommend optimization
Evaluate product quality and take action to improve delivery
Execute or assist with performance and penetration tests and troubleshoot system-level issues
Isolate root causes and provide solution recommendations
Track and report time and work status
Contribute to application lifecycle planning
Identify and coordinate release schedules and priorities
Coordinate with Ministry of Energy and Minerals clients, analysts, interfaced systems clients and team members during testing
Provide systems support and operational assistance
Design and implement MS-SQL databases
Document business processes and applications
Produce systems design, technical and reference manuals
Conduct unit, system and integration testing
Ensure application changes are developed, tested and implemented using a controlled software release strategy
Work on implementation and maintenance projects for the Bitumen Royalty in Kind (BRIK) program

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experienced in C#, Visual Studio and MS-SQL application system analysis
Preferably experienced with Oil Sands Regulations
Broad knowledge of various technical areas and application technologies
Ability to gather requirements and perform programming duties
Ability to work closely with application development and maintenance teams
Ability to work directly with business subject matter experts for application testing and remediation
Experience designing and implementing MS-SQL databases
Ability to collect and analyze business and user requirements
Experience documenting business processes and applications
Experience producing systems design manuals, technical manuals and reference manuals
Experience conducting unit testing, system testing and integration testing
Ability to use software release strategies to control application changes
Experience with performance and penetration testing and system-level troubleshooting
