About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the customer journey from lead through onboarding to activation across the Paxos Dashboard and Identity APIs
  • Instrument the onboarding funnel, identify drop-off and friction, and run experiments to reduce time-to-activation
  • Design, build, and operate backend services for KYC/KYB, identity verification, screening, and identity lifecycle
  • Use AI to automate compliance work including document review, case triage, and risk assessment
  • Own integrations with third-party identity and screening vendors, including asynchronous workflows and webhooks
  • Build GDPR erasure and PII-handling capabilities into the platform
  • Write design documents, lead technical decisions, mentor teammates, and participate in on-call
  • Collaborate directly with Product, Compliance, and identity vendors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years building production backend systems
  • 1+ year at senior level
  • Strong proficiency in Go, Java, or Python (Go strongly preferred)
  • Experience designing APIs and data models for sensitive or regulated data
  • Ability to focus on conversion, activation, and time-to-value outcomes
  • Ability to turn ambiguous requirements from non-engineering stakeholders into clear technical plans
  • Daily use of AI tools
  • Bonus: experience with identity, KYC/AML, or onboarding systems
  • Bonus: experience with growth engineering or experimentation
  • Bonus: experience building LLM features into production
  • Bonus: experience with Persona or similar vendors
