About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and implement payment solutions supporting stable and consistent payment processing
- Support and extend the existing Perl-based payment gateway
- Design and build high-performance Python microservices
- Architect and implement scalable, distributed Python services replacing legacy components
- Integrate and manage third-party APIs and external payment services
- Ensure seamless transaction flows and robust error handling
- Lead code reviews and drive engineering best practices
- Identify system bottlenecks and improve performance and scalability
- Collaborate with DevOps to improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines
- Architect solutions using AWS services such as Lambda and ECS
- Apply a product mindset to understand business logic, user impact, and feature rationale
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in distributed systems
- Maintain zero-downtime reliability for merchants
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with deep Python expertise (FastAPI and AsyncIO preferred)
- Genuine eagerness to learn and work within Perl production code is mandatory
- Proven experience building and scaling microservices architectures and high-throughput systems
- Deep understanding of integrating third-party APIs, including webhooks, callbacks, idempotency, and retry policies
- Strong experience with Docker/Containerization
- Solid grasp of AWS cloud infrastructure, including Lambda, SQS/SNS, and cloud networking
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging systems such as Kafka and RabbitMQ
- Track record of owning features from design to production
- Ability to support and mentor other engineers
- Strong English communication skills, written and verbal
