About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Support, maintain, and extend the existing Perl-based payment gateway in a live financial production environment
Debug production issues and add features during the migration
Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable Python server-side components
Architect and build the next-generation Python microservices platform
Integrate third-party APIs and external payment services across legacy and modern platform layers
Collaborate with stakeholders across departments in agile sprints
Apply a product-focused mindset to understand business logic and user impact
Participate in code reviews and uphold high code-quality standards
Work with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud deployments
Report to the Technical Lead

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong Python mastery
AsyncIO and FastAPI preferred
Experience with Perl, or genuine eagerness to learn and work within Perl production code
Experience integrating third-party APIs
Deep understanding of webhooks, callbacks, and retry policies
Experience with CI/CD pipelines; GitLab preferred
Docker containerization experience
Familiarity with AWS, including Lambda and cloud services
Exposure to event-driven architectures, Kafka, and message queues
Clean-code advocacy and ability to explain the reasoning behind code
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Interest in product functionality, business logic, and user impact
