About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the UK finance function and own accounting operations for UK PayByPhone entities
- Own periodic financial reporting, accounting records, and the control environment
- Manage UK cash management, statutory and regulatory compliance, and company secretarial responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop the UK Finance Team, including work allocation, coaching, objectives, performance reviews, hiring, onboarding and succession planning
- Own monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts
- Track budget and prior-period variances and provide revenue and cost analysis
- Oversee statutory accounts, tax returns, VAT/HMRC reporting and payments, audits, and auditor relationships
- Manage Companies House filings, statutory registers and confirmation statements
- Partner with UK commercial leadership and provide financial input on client contracts, renewals, pricing and VAT implications
- Support UK budgeting, forecasting, treasury, cash management and global close activities
- Review and approve vendor payments, balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations
- Oversee client remittance, suppliers, banking relationships, Merchant of Record tasks, reconciliations, chargebacks, PSP and merchant account maintenance
- Ensure timely month-end processing, manage aged debt and payables, and oversee monthly payroll sign-off
- Drive global finance process efficiency, standardisation, documentation and AI/automation opportunities
- Support global consolidation and review of group profit and loss and balance sheet
Requirements
What you’ll need- Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or local equivalent)
- 7+ years managing a full-cycle accounting function
- Public practice experience preferred
- Working knowledge of UK GAAP, UK VAT and HMRC filing requirements
- Experience with NetSuite or another ERP
- Experience leading, coaching, developing and hiring a finance team
- Strong internal-controls and process-improvement background
- Excellent attention to detail and organisation
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, especially month-end
- Ability to gather, analyse and present material clearly
- Discretion in handling confidential matters
- Advanced Excel, plus Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to take ownership, show initiative, and deliver results with minimal supervision, independently and as part of a team
