About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Monitor, triage and investigate security alerts across Google Cloud Platform, Google Workspace and other cloud services
  • Design, build and tune detection rules, dashboards and alerting for real-time security posture visibility
  • Define and conduct daily, monthly and quarterly security checks, including log reviews, access recertifications, vulnerability scans, configuration drift and segmentation testing
  • Produce audit-ready evidence for the PCI compliance programme covering DSS, P2PE, PIN and PTS
  • Support compliance assessments
  • Lead first response to security incidents, contain threats, preserve evidence and drive remediation to closure
  • Coordinate penetration tests and red team exercises and use findings to strengthen detection capabilities
  • Partner with DevOps and Corporate IT Services to ensure security controls are implemented, effective and not bypassed
  • Shape SOC tooling, runbooks, automation and KPIs as the function grows
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota
  • Work embedded within the DevOps team while reporting outside the DevOps team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Hands-on experience in a SOC, security engineering or incident response role
  • Strong knowledge of Google Cloud Platform security (IAM, audit logging, Security Command Center, VPC)
  • Google Workspace administration and security experience
  • Experience with SIEM platforms, ideally Google SecOps, including writing and tuning detection queries
  • Working knowledge of PCI DSS and experience providing audit evidence in a regulated environment
  • Experience with PCI P2PE, PIN or PTS, payment HSMs or key management is a strong advantage
  • Understanding of cloud architecture, networking, Linux and containerisation
  • Scripting skills in Python, Go or Bash are a plus
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) is a plus
  • Experience with, or a strong interest in, threat hunting, penetration testing and red team or purple team exercises
  • Organised, analytical problem-solver with excellent communication skills
  • Confidence challenging engineers constructively and explaining risk clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Ability to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota
