About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Help students develop academic goals and create long- and short-term academic plans
- Provide information about credit and non-credit programs at PCC
- Provide asset-based academic advising and retention services within assigned pathways
- Build and maintain positive relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators
- Conduct ongoing, proactive student outreach
- Provide holistic support addressing students’ academic, work, health, and financial needs
- Connect students with food, housing, transportation, and other essential resources
- Support students through virtual, in-person, phone, and email modalities
- Work evening and weekend hours when necessary to meet student needs
- Contribute to PCC’s commitment to equitable student success
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or relevant experience substituting for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis
- Two years of professional experience in an educational setting providing academic advising, career counseling, student retention/coaching, or related student services
- Understanding and practical application of student development, career development, and student learning theories
- Understanding of the purpose of higher education, particularly within a community college context
- Strong awareness of equity issues and opportunity and achievement gaps at community colleges
- Experience supporting students with resources to meet educational and career goals
- Ability to engage with cultural differences and advise effectively across diverse student backgrounds
- Proficiency with current technologies for proactive outreach, caseload management, and student communication
- Experience collaborating with educational staff and community resources to coordinate student support and engagement
- Ability to work through virtual, in-person, phone, and email modalities
- Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as needed
- Applicants must reside in Oregon or Washington
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
- Portland Community College cannot provide visa sponsorship
