About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead medium-to-large estimates or components of large estimates and remain accountable for the assigned scope
- Lead win strategy development
- Analyze contract documents and specifications to determine and validate project requirements
- Complete quantity take-offs for labor, equipment, and materials and identify missing information
- Lead conceptual estimate proposal submissions and presentations for construction management and design-build pursuits
- Support the estimate lead by populating tender forms, generating requests for information, anticipating proposal requirements, and helping establish pursuit schedules
- Conduct bid-related risk and opportunity analysis
- Document, organize, and archive bid information for transfer to the project team
- Perform bid-day assignments and support other estimators in closing scopes
- Coordinate with internal departments and external parties on site logistics, schedules, execution plans, and project budgets
- Complete and present final cost estimates and tender submissions to the chief estimator and district management
- Establish critical path schedules for estimates and pursuits and review estimators’ work
- Lead, mentor, and coach direct and indirect reports
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent
- 8 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating
- 6–12 months of on-site experience is preferred
- Successfully led pursuits valued at up to $150 million in various delivery methods
- Knowledge of different construction methods; planning, scheduling, sequencing, quality, safety, and timelines
- Extensive knowledge of bid preparation, including quantity takeoff procedures and systems, subtrade partner procurement, pricing, interdepartmental functions, general expense philosophy and bid-closing procedures
- Understanding of compensation models, market conditions, business trends, internal historical information and competitors to develop win strategies
- Experience estimating multiple scopes, with the capability of building conceptual estimates
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with interested parties, including soliciting subtrade partners and suppliers
- Working knowledge of estimating software
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong aptitude for adopting new technology
