About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead medium-to-large estimates or components of large estimates and own the assigned scope of work
  • Lead win strategy development
  • Analyze contract documents and specifications to determine and validate project requirements
  • Complete quantity take-offs for labor, equipment and materials and identify missing information
  • Lead conceptual estimate proposal submissions and presentations for construction management and design-build pursuits
  • Support the estimate lead by populating tender forms, generating requests for information, anticipating proposal requirements and assisting with pursuit schedules
  • Conduct risk and opportunity analysis on bid-related documents
  • Document, organize and archive estimate information for transfer to the project team
  • Perform bid-day assignments and support other estimators in closing scopes
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders on site logistics, schedules, execution plans and project budgets
  • Complete and present final cost estimates and tender submissions for review and approval
  • Establish critical path schedules and review work completed by estimators
  • Lead, mentor and coach direct and indirect reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent
  • 8 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating
  • 6–12 months of on-site experience is preferred
  • Successfully led pursuits valued at up to $150 million in various delivery methods
  • Knowledge of different construction methods; planning, scheduling, sequencing, quality, safety, and timelines
  • Extensive knowledge of bid preparation, quantity takeoff procedures and systems, subtrade partner procurement, pricing, interdepartmental functions, general expense philosophy and bid-closing procedures
  • Understanding of compensation models, market conditions, business trends, internal historical information and competitors to develop win strategies
  • Experience estimating multiple scopes, with the capability of building conceptual estimates
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders, including soliciting subtrade partners and suppliers
  • Working knowledge of estimating software
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong aptitude for adopting new technology
