About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage all field activities in an assigned sales-service area, including customer relations, product application, sales and delivery, service, installation instruction, collections and customer satisfaction
  • Promote the visibility and presence of the entire product line while monitoring architectural and construction-related activity
  • Represent Pella Commercial Solutions at company-sponsored events, professional group presentations, trade association meetings and trade shows
  • Assist in growing and developing the customer base through training and guidance
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of products, applications and specification writing for projects of all sizes
  • Establish personal action plans with management to promote and sell products
  • Develop close working relationships with customers and inside support personnel
  • Present product demonstrations, interpret and take off blueprints, and use Siebel On Demand, PQM and Microsoft Office to sell and order products for commercial projects
  • Assist with prompt and on-time delivery and package products as a single source of supply when possible
  • Advise management of significant developments and recommend actions
  • Develop architectural promotion, product application and bidding strategies; implement value engineering when appropriate
  • Gather competitive intelligence and recommend new products to improve profitability and sales
  • Balance profitability and sales volume
  • Engage early on projects to influence product selection and performance specifications
  • Maintain project files, architectural portfolios and ongoing communication with buying influences and company personnel
  • Conduct “box lunch” presentations and educate buying influences on product features and benefits
  • Assist management in training other sales representatives on technical information, product knowledge, promotion, bidding and selling strategies
  • Ensure products are installed properly according to manufacturer guidelines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training, and eight years of sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven ability to relate to dealers, architects, general contractors, developers and building owners
  • Mechanical aptitude with a general interest in building sciences
  • Results-oriented with a high level of work intensity and a bias for action
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, financial reports and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from co-workers, managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Effective spoken and written communication
  • Proficiency in Windows 7 and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to learn Pella Windows and Doors or CWS proprietary systems, including PQM, Siebel On-Demand and OMS
  • Ability to calculate discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform required standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing and other physical duties
  • Ability to work in an environment with regular exposure to outside weather conditions
