About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Pick up and transport wildlife to the Conservation Center from satellite locations and local animal control agencies
Act as a liaison to partner agencies
Transport wildlife within San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties using safe driving practices
Pick up and deliver wildlife to the Conservation Center
Provide humane handling and care for wild animals
Ensure animals are safely and adequately confined during transport
Collect available paperwork and background information related to animal intake and deliver it with the animal
Follow traffic laws and maintain the PHS/SPCA vehicle in a clean, orderly, and properly stocked condition
Operate a two-way radio professionally
Maintain a daily activity report
Communicate with coworkers, volunteers, and representatives of other organizations
Work quickly and effectively under pressure to deliver animals efficiently
Occasionally assist with wildlife releases
Provide assistance to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Department as assigned
Report items needing repair or replacement to supervisory staff
Perform other duties supporting the organization’s public image, operations, and animal welfare

Requirements

What you’ll need

Upon hire, must pass a background check
Valid California Driver’s License with clean driving record to be insured with PHS insurance
Able to multitask and work efficiently and calmly under stressful circumstances
Must be able to work well in a team environment and have a professional demeanor
Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and holidays
Comfortable transporting a wide variety of wildlife
High school diploma or GED; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Basic knowledge of or ability to become proficient with Microsoft Office
Computer keyboarding skills and data entry
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds
Must be able to reliably commute to Saratoga
Ability to meet physical demands including standing, walking, running, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, and driving
Ability to work in outside weather conditions and around zoonotic disease, potentially aggressive/feral animals, toxic or caustic chemicals, parasites, and infectious disease
Ability to operate a vehicle under all types of weather and road conditions
Designated start times due to time-sensitive duties
