About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide expertise and direction in developing and modifying computer-based scientific, technical, and business software systems
  • Design, develop, code, test, debug, customize, deploy, and maintain large enterprise mainframe COBOL applications
  • Use IDMS COBOL programming language with IDMS and DB2 database products
  • Implement applications using COBOL, TSO, JCL, Endevor, CICS, IDMS ADS/ADSO, IDMS Utilities, and IDMS DC online features
  • Troubleshoot production problems and provide software application support and resolutions
  • Consider performance, scalability, usability, and security in all tasks
  • Collaborate with end users to define new system requirements
  • Work in a team environment and mentor less experienced developers
  • Ensure software compliance with established development principles, standards, and processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 years of experience with a BS/BA, or 6 years of experience with a high school diploma/equivalent
  • Experience writing, compiling, and executing IDMS/ADSO COBOL programs
  • Technical implementation expertise designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining enterprise mainframe applications using COBOL
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Green Card Holder
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance
  • Preferred: 5+ years of COBOL, VSAM, JCL, and DB2 experience
  • Preferred: Current or prior U.S. Department of Agriculture experience
  • Preferred: Cloud Practitioner certification or 3 years of cloud experience
  • Preferred: Java and web development experience
  • Working knowledge of Agile practices such as Scrum and Test Driven Development
