About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Manage and grow a team of software engineers
Design and deliver core platform services supporting secure, scalable, and reliable satellite ground communications and data transport
Provide technical direction to software developers while contributing hands-on to architecture, design, development, integration, and troubleshooting
Collaborate with systems engineering, MBSE, cybersecurity, test, DevSecOps, and customer stakeholders
Lead multi-tenant AWS platform design and define microservice and integration patterns
Set scalable and secure engineering standards and deliver APIs, microservices, and backend capabilities
Contribute to full-stack software development and guide team delivery through code reviews, peer mentoring, and engineering best practices
Oversee staffing, performance reviews, career development, and daily team operations
Translate business, mission, and system requirements into software architectures, technical specifications, implementation strategies, and development priorities
Maintain traceability and alignment between requirements, models, software implementation, and verification activities
Lead backend development using Python, including APIs, automation logic, data processing, and platform-level services
Guide user-interface and reusable frontend component design and development
Define and implement authentication, authorization, and role-based access control mechanisms
Lead integration, deployment, and production support efforts
Coordinate software integration with customers and mission partners
Partner with DevSecOps to enhance CI/CD and operational tooling
Investigate and resolve complex software and production issues
Identify technical risks, architectural gaps, and software dependencies and develop mitigation strategies
Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and architectural approaches
Solve complex technical challenges involving secure, highly available, and scalable satellite communications and ground-system infrastructure

Requirements

What you’ll need

12+ years of experience; may have prior supervisory or management experience
Minimum of Secret clearance; must maintain the clearance
Proficiency in Python for backend systems and API development
Experience with microservice architectures, backend service development, and asynchronous messaging
Experience with PostgreSQL, Kafka, OAuth 2.0, JWT, and Unix shell scripting
Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing relational databases and SQL-based capabilities, including triggers, functions, and stored procedures
Experience implementing authentication and authorization mechanisms, including RBAC, ABAC, OAuth 2.0, and JWT
Experience applying Zero Trust software development principles
Proficiency in modern front-end development using TypeScript and Vite
Experience with component-based architecture, state management, application routing, and responsive design
Experience with Git-based source control, Git, GitHub, structured code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and automated test workflows
Experience investigating and resolving production issues in operational environments
Experience supporting deployment operations using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm
Working knowledge of PKI concepts
Experience delivering software on at least one major commercial cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
Ability to effectively collaborate with MBSE and Test engineering teams
Ability to prepare and present technical designs and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders
Ability to engage with end-users to clarify requirements or support implementation activities
Ability to learn new tools, technologies, or frameworks in support of evolving project needs
