Quality Control Technician

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform testing and/or auditing to ensure products are manufactured and shipped according to company specifications
- Assist with problem solving related to product quality and identify areas for improvement
- Support implementation of effective quality solutions
- Follow Food Safety, Quality, and GMP procedures and requirements
- Monitor and collect qualitative and quantitative product data and enter analytical data into the computerized lab management system
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment according to schedule
- Follow lab standard operating procedures and methods
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues, including risk assessments, deviations, retesting, and raw-material and finished-goods rejections
- Monitor and approve production equipment sanitation, startup, and performance
- Monitor the plant environment using test equipment and procedures
- Routinely monitor production lines and operator checks throughout production auditing
- Monitor plant GMPs and quality and food safety programs through assigned audits and corrective actions
- Support technical communication in shift meetings and with cross-functional shift team members
- Investigate, test, and collect data to improve processes or products and packaging
- Support technical, quality and food safety, continuous improvement, cost reduction, and R&D projects
- Contribute to a positive team culture and promote servant leadership
- Establish and work toward personal development objectives
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- HACCP, PCQI, Auditing, ASQ, or FSSC 22000 certification a plus
- If degreed, 1 or more years of relevant work experience, preferably in a lab environment or a food manufacturing facility
- If not degreed, 3 or more years of relevant work experience, preferably in a lab environment or food manufacturing facility
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Working knowledge and use of computers; intermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of statistical process control techniques and their application to process control and continuous improvements
- Ability to perform routine in-process production testing and testing of raw materials and packaging; ability to prepare samples for testing
- Sound decision making, analytical, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of good manufacturing practices and basic food safety principles
- Knowledge of good laboratory practices, techniques, and testing/sampling methods
- Ability to plan and prioritize work tasks; excellent time management skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to manage difficult and challenging situations in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work extended hours; occasional overtime required
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic, compute rates and ratios, and draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to work safely and exercise caution around people and equipment
- Must be able to wear hearing protection in designated areas
- Must be able to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, hear, and occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, or smell
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision
