About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive volume sales and market expansion of PerkinElmer's Materials Characterization product portfolio, including Molecular Spectroscopy and Thermal Analysis instruments
  • Prospect and identify new opportunities and accounts
  • Manage and grow business and relationships with existing accounts
  • Present PerkinElmer capabilities in the marketplace and provide customer interface
  • Represent PerkinElmer products and services in an assigned territory covering IL, WI and KY
  • Execute a sales plan aligned with regional and company strategic objectives
  • Manage current customer accounts, identify targeted accounts, participate in trade shows, and improve market share and profitability
  • Develop product-line plans and ensure compensation margins meet company goals
  • Develop and implement business plans and effective time and territory management plans
  • Present business and technical information, identify customer needs and trends, promote support services, provide product information, and follow up on inquiries
  • Maintain customer information in approved tools such as CRM; update opportunity funnel and weekly forecasts; manage funnel accuracy and growth targets
  • Cultivate customer and supplier partnerships and recommend solutions based on competitive offerings and market dynamics
  • Work with regional sales, service, product specialist, and business unit teams to provide customer service and product support
  • Provide local support for planned customer events

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Undergraduate with 5-8 years experience or Graduate degree with 3-5 years experience in Materials Science, Chemistry or related field
  • Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time throughout the territory including overnight travel
  • Must reside within the assigned territory, preferably in Chicago metro region
  • Technical proficiency with scientific instrumentation, in particular, Molecular Spectroscopy and/or Thermal Analysis techniques (FTIR, UV-Vis-NIR, DSC/TGA type instruments) is strongly preferred
  • Experience with consultative sales approach, identifying customer pain points and positioning solutions to their needs, while managing complex sales cycle and stakeholders typically associated with capital equipment sales
  • Familiarity selling capital equipment into mid- and large-size industrial and pharma companies
  • Effective communication skills with strong verbal, negotiation and relationship-building capability across all levels of an organization
  • Basic understanding of CRM systems (Salesforce), sales KPIs, territory planning, lead and demand generation activities
  • Ability to efficiently juggle multiple accounts and opportunities; prior knowledge of the territory in a similar position is a plus
