About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Operate large, complex gasoline- and diesel-powered construction equipment, including bulldozers, track hoes, motor graders, cranes, and similar machinery
  • Backfill, excavate, spread, and scrape construction or maintenance project areas
  • Clean, clear, and prepare roads, ditches, sewer lines, and land
  • Communicate with the public, supervisors, and subordinates regarding job duties
  • Load, unload, lift, and place materials such as dirt, biosolids, pipes, and brush
  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on heavy and construction equipment
  • Promote safe work practices, including traffic work zones, safety gear, traffic laws, and equipment outriggers
  • Supervise staff by assigning and distributing work, directing duties, monitoring progress, and providing feedback or training

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Class B commercial driver's license
  • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL and/or HAZMAT endorsement within 90 days if required by jurisdiction
  • Experience working in or around construction equipment, such as backhoes, motorgraders, track dozers, and track loaders
  • Experience following safety standards related to heavy/construction equipment operation, including setting up work zones, locating utility lines, and flagging
