About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Operate a variety of street maintenance and utility heavy equipment
  • Backfill, excavate, spread, and scrape construction or maintenance project areas
  • Clean, clear, and prepare roads, ditches, sewer lines, and land
  • Communicate with the public, supervisors, and subordinates regarding job duties
  • Assign and review work tasks, facilitate training, and provide feedback as a lead worker
  • Load, unload, lift, and place materials such as dirt, biosolids, pipes, and brush
  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on heavy equipment
  • Promote safe work practices and prevent accidents, injuries, and property or equipment damage
  • Work with limited supervision and receive assignments from an immediate supervisor
  • May supervise Laborers, Skilled Laborers, and Truck Drivers when the supervisor is not on site

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Class B commercial driver's license
  • Experience working in or around heavy equipment (e.g., brush truck, rubber tire loader, roller, limb loader)
  • Experience following safety standards related to heavy equipment operation (e.g., setting up work zones, locating utility lines, flagging)
  • Ability to sustain light physical activity for prolonged periods
  • May occasionally lift items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors around traffic, landfills, heavy equipment, hand tools, inclement weather, foul odors, and potentially harmful waste
