About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare, process, and maintain payroll
  • Review and update payroll records to ensure employees are paid correctly
  • Maintain personnel records and facilitate the new hire process
  • Process employee payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments
  • Report and make payments to benefit providers and governmental agencies
  • Communicate and collaborate with department heads, employees, citizens, board and council members, vendors, and other parties
  • Process new hire paperwork and schedule and deliver new hire orientations
  • Maintain and update personnel action data and documentation using HRIS
  • Enter leave information and review departmental leave reports to finalize payroll
  • Prepare payroll tax forms and reports for governmental organizations
  • Maintain and update employee pension-related documents and applications
  • Reconcile payroll reports and HRIS information and correct payment discrepancies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience processing payroll for employees including validation and reconciliation of time (Option A)
  • Experience reviewing time and attendance according to wage and hour laws, e.g., Fair Labor Standards Act (Option B)
  • Experience using payroll or Human Resources Information System software, e.g., Kronos, Workday, Lawson, Evolution
  • Compliance with applicable employment, payroll, benefits, and tax laws
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information
