About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a fiduciary representative overseeing the City’s supplemental pension fund.
  • Review monthly financial statements and annual audits prepared by the City.
  • Record whether monthly participant and City contributions exceed or fall short of operating costs to identify surpluses or deficits.
  • Review monthly investment reports to determine overall portfolio gains or losses.
  • Engage with investment advisors on performance updates, strategies, and recommendations.
  • Approve service pension applications, consulting with the Finance Department on unusual or exceptional cases.
  • Coordinate with Police and Fire representatives familiar with applicants.
  • Attend monthly meetings and participate in presentations from current and prospective money managers.
  • Contribute to transparent, well-informed discussions supporting prudent fund management.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of five (5) or more consecutive years as an executive in insurance, actuarial, investments, or banking, or as a certified public accountant immediately preceding appointment.
  • Members meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 PM.
  • Ability to review financial and investment reports, pension applications, and contribute to pension fund decision-making.
