About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Enforce City/County/State revenue laws within assigned jurisdictions
- Inspect businesses and residences to determine business classification, tax liability, appropriate licensures, and other revenue-related information
- Process business operation applications, including business licenses and special event permits
- Collect occupation, liquor, ad valorem, lease, lodging, and other relevant taxes
- Perform residential and commercial revenue inspections through site visits, financial and tax document reviews, and citation issuance
- Accept and review tax, revenue, and licenses/bonds applications and documentation
- Communicate and collaborate with department heads, employees, citizens, board and council members, and vendors
- Manage departmental accounts receivable and payable, monitor expenditures, and produce financial reports using financial software
- Create and update files, maintain documents, and track information using forms and computer systems
- Provide internal and external customer service
- Participate in professional development and stay current on relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and guidelines
Requirements
What you’ll need- Valid driver's license
- Experience with MS Office Suite or similar office productivity software, including spreadsheets, word processing, and email
- Financial experience, such as balancing cash, money orders, computing taxes, collecting past due payments, and preliminary and final assessments on business licenses and permits
- Customer service experience, including handling complaints face to face or over the phone, researching information, and providing guidance
- Ability to sustain light physical activity such as walking or standing
- Ability to occasionally lift items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk on unstable ground, such as loose dirt at construction sites
