About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Engage individuals in considering treatment
- Engage clients in treatment or other healthcare services
- Engage individuals in continuing care services post-discharge
- Develop treatment/recovery plans
- Raise awareness of social and other support services
- Model coping skills
- Assist with applying for benefits
- Accompany clients to court appearances and medical or other appointments
- Provide non-clinical crisis support, especially after hospitalization or incarceration
- Work with participants to identify strengths
- Link participants to formal recovery supports
- Educate program participants about various modes of recovery
- Provide travel training for independent use of public transportation
- Educate and support clients on medication-assisted treatment
- Work between Suffolk County Jails, the community, and a Phoenix House facility office
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Recovery Peer Advocate Certification (CRPA) in good standing
- Minimum one year experience providing peer support services
- Competencies: Ethical Practices, Judgment, Relationship Management, Emotional Intelligence, Empathy, Professional Boundaries, Global and Cultural Awareness, Problem Solving, Communication, Teamwork, Crisis Management, Technical Capacity
- Ability to work in an indoor office environment and use standard office equipment
- Ability to sit, type, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
- Frequently able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
