About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and safely repair fleet equipment
- Conduct failure analysis, repairs, and rebuilds of fleet equipment components
- Inform management about housekeeping opportunities, harmful working conditions, and unsafe work practices; suggest corrective actions
- Identify broken tools and missing repair supplies and take steps to resolve issues when possible
- Complete and document work orders correctly
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Comply with company policies, procedures, ethics, and integrity standards
- Operate and inspect mechanical equipment to diagnose defects
- Analyze malfunctions and perform overhauls, tune-ups, and preventive maintenance
- Dismantle and reassemble equipment
- Plan work procedures using charts, technical manuals, and experience
- Enter labor lines and parts into the repair order computer system
- Travel to other company shop locations when staff is needed
- React to productivity changes and handle other essential assigned tasks
Requirements
What you’ll need- Two years' verifiable experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair OR a technical school degree or certification in Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Maintenance with one verifiable year of experience
- Valid state-issued driver's license
- Must pass DOT physical and drug screen
- Command of English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of heavy trucks, semi-trailers and other mechanical equipment
- Basic hand tools
- Working knowledge of diesel engine operating principles and heavy truck repair
- Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills for diagnostics
- Must consent to the use of driver-facing event recorders
- Ability to work a varied schedule based on need and overtime during peak periods
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to stand, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach
- CDL, ASE, and State and/or Federal inspection certification preferred but not required
