About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and safely and correctly repair fleet equipment
  • Conduct failure analysis, repairs, and rebuilds of fleet equipment components
  • Inform management about housekeeping opportunities, harmful working conditions, and unsafe work practices; suggest corrective actions
  • Identify broken tools and missing repair supplies and take steps to resolve issues when possible
  • Complete and document work orders correctly
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity
  • Operate and inspect mechanical equipment to diagnose defects
  • Analyze malfunctions and perform general overhauls, tune-ups, and preventive maintenance
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment
  • Plan work procedures using charts, technical manuals, and experience
  • Enter labor lines and parts into the repair order computer system
  • Travel to other company shop locations when staff is needed
  • React to changing productivity needs and handle other essential tasks as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Two years' verifiable experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair OR a technical school degree, or certification in Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Maintenance with one verifiable experience
  • A valid state-issued driver's license
  • Must pass DOT physical and drug screen
  • A CDL, ASE and State and/or Federal inspection certification is preferred but not required
  • Command of English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair and maintain a variety of heavy trucks and semi-trailers and other mechanical equipment is required
  • Basic hand tools are required
  • Must have working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel engines and repair of heavy trucks
  • Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to communicate to both internal and external customers
  • Computer skills needed for diagnostics
  • Must consent to the use of driver-facing event recorders in our fleet to promote the safety of our employees and the public
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule based on need
  • Overtime may be necessary during peak periods
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Ability to stand, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach
  • Ability to work under internal and external environmental conditions
