About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Load and unload freight according to DOT requirements, by hand or using hand trucks or dollies
  • Sort and secure items on trucks or the dock to prevent damage
  • Handle cartons, bags, cylinders, boxes, crates, drums, pipe, bars, rugs, and other materials
  • Use carts, dollies, pallet jacks, and tow motors
  • Move tractor trailers into the dock area
  • Perform standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, carrying, bending, reaching, and lifting above and below waist level
  • Work safely and professionally to reduce risks to self and fellow employees
  • Process all job-related paperwork daily
  • Work a Monday–Friday schedule with a 4 PM start
  • Perform other duties as directed or requested

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Valid state-issued driver license
  • Possess only one valid driver’s license issued by the resident state
  • Provide information on all previous licenses held within the past 36-month period
  • No disqualifying driver’s license suspensions or revocations during the specified 36-month period
  • No serious traffic violation citation or conviction during the specified 60-month period
  • No more than three motor vehicle violations during the specified 36-month period
  • No more than one at-fault traffic accident and no more than two motor vehicle violations during the specified 36-month period
  • General knowledge and experience backing tractor trailers into a dock area
  • Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination
  • Consent to a pre-employment drug screen and receive a negative result
  • Ability to read and write English and perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Consent to a ten-year work-history check; explain any gap of 30 days or more
  • Ability to read shipping labels, follow loading instructions, handle receipts, and communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and physical material-handling activities
  • Comply with federal, state, and company regulations
