About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and advise on complex employee relations matters, ensuring fair and balanced outcomes
  • Conduct and support disciplinary, grievance, dignity at work, conduct and workplace concern investigations
  • Coach and develop managers on people matters and employment decisions
  • Provide employment law advice and build organisational capability
  • Drive consistency, compliance and best practice across UK operations
  • Provide expert advice on disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, attendance, conduct and organisational change matters
  • Support or lead complex investigations, hearings and appeals
  • Partner with managers and HR teams on sensitive and high-risk cases through resolution
  • Prepare managers for investigations, hearings and appeal meetings
  • Develop stakeholder relationships across manufacturing and corporate functions
  • Act as subject matter expert and escalation point for complex ER cases
  • Support performance reviews, capability processes and Performance Improvement Plans
  • Collaborate with Trade Union representatives and employee forums
  • Maintain accurate case management and reporting using ER systems and data
  • Monitor employment legislation and emerging ER trends and translate them into business solutions
  • Support site-based activity and travel occasionally across the UK for significant investigations, hearings or complex cases

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven experience managing complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and performance matters
  • Experience supporting or conducting workplace investigations, hearings and appeals
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application within a commercial environment
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to challenge, influence and coach managers at all levels
  • Confidence handling sensitive and high-risk cases with professionalism, objectivity and sound judgement
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise multiple competing cases in a fast-paced environment
  • Genuine passion for employee relations and desire to make a meaningful difference to colleagues and business outcomes
  • Continuous improvement mindset with commitment to personal and professional development
  • CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent experience) — desirable
  • Experience within FMCG, manufacturing or a unionised environment — desirable
  • Exposure to complex organisational change programmes, collective consultations or trade union engagement — desirable
  • Experience coaching managers through investigations, disciplinary hearings and grievance processes — desirable
