About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build and maintain PlanetScale plugins across AI marketplaces, directories, skill registries, MCP directories, IDE extension stores and AI app builders
Own integrations with AI coding tools, agent frameworks and platforms
Monitor newly launched AI tools and ensure a strong customer experience from day one
Test the PlanetScale MCP server and CLI across Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code and other clients
Identify and resolve friction in database creation, connections, migrations and query debugging within agents
Improve agent context through tool descriptions, skills, llms.txt, agent-focused documentation and actionable error messages
Optimize answer engine visibility so agents find and recommend PlanetScale
Build and maintain skills for Postgres, MySQL, Vitess, Neki and PlanetScale
Build evaluations that run real agent tasks against PlanetScale databases
Benchmark agent performance and drive continuous improvement
Track AI recommendations of PlanetScale and their accuracy
Instrument and report agent usage, including databases created, time to first connection, MCP versus CLI usage and session failures
Build demos and sample applications
Write documentation, guides and blog posts about using databases with AI
Create videos and attend conferences to communicate effective AI development practices

Requirements

What you’ll need

Daily use of AI coding agents
Experience building an MCP server, plugin, CLI or SDK used by real developers
Software engineering background in languages such as TypeScript and Go
Comfort with APIs, OAuth and the command line
Experience writing documentation, blogs and/or creating video content
Ability to communicate with broad audiences and customers on social media
Experience with relational databases including Postgres, MySQL and SQLite
Experience with schema design, migrations and connection handling
Production experience with Postgres or MySQL
Data fluency, including designing evaluations and writing dashboard queries
Ability to communicate technical ideas in writing, video and on stage
Independence, speed and ability to identify gaps and ship fixes
Curiosity about the AI tooling landscape and habit of keeping up with it
Bonus: contributions to the MCP specification, SDKs or open-source MCP servers
Bonus: experience writing agent skills, plugins or rules files for Claude Code, Cursor or Codex
Bonus: experience with LLM evaluation tools and agent benchmarks
Bonus: experience with AEO or GEO, or tracking how LLMs surface and recommend products
Bonus: a blog, YouTube channel or GitHub followed by developers
Bonus: experience with Vitess, database sharding or databases at scale
