About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Serve as the main infrastructure point of contact for Polarsteps
Work with the Platform team and support all 8 engineering teams
Report to the Lead Backend Engineer and collaborate with team leads across Engineering
Own day-to-day operations of the AWS stack, including S3 and PostgreSQL databases
Identify architecture and scaling bottlenecks for users and developer experience
Create and execute improvement plans with Engineering and other stakeholders
Review, improve and maintain observability, monitoring and alerting
Manage and respond to incidents
Maintain infrastructure and troubleshooting documentation
Strengthen platform security and privacy with the external security lead
Lead company-wide SSO rollout and manage the VPN
Support the Data team with infrastructure for the analytics stack

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years as a DevOps Engineer, SRE or Platform Engineer
Experience automating infrastructure and processes on AWS
Fluency in shell scripting, Python and Terraform / OpenTofu
Experience monitoring, troubleshooting and scaling a similar stack involving Python and PostgreSQL/RDS under growing load
Comfort making changes to backend code when automation requires it
Pragmatic approach to technical trade-offs
Clear communication with technical and non-technical people
Autonomy and collaborative working style
Knowledge of platform security best practices
Bonus: experience with Nix, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, ECS, RabbitMQ or TypeScript on the frontend
