  • Conduct vegetation-management scoping
  • Analyze risks and prioritize jobs according to urgency and location
  • Plan and organize vegetation-clearance activities
  • Schedule work assignments and contract crews based on manager priorities
  • Review contractor performance against PGE standards and specifications
  • Monitor crew productivity and vegetation-clearance expenditures against statements of work
  • Adapt tree-pruning practices to optimize resource use
  • Respond to region engineering questions
  • Represent PGE’s Forestry department to contractors
  • Schedule meetings to explain and resolve problems
  • Coordinate herbicide applications with the PGE transmission forester
  • Coordinate vegetation clearance with line-restoration crews during emergencies
  • Interface with regional line operations to determine maintenance and construction vegetation-clearance needs
  • Coordinate clearance and selective herbicide applications with city, county, and state agencies
  • Ensure work meets applicable standards, regulations, and agreements
  • Review new standards, regulations, and agreements and identify potential impacts
  • Report to the assigned operations center, collect a company vehicle, and travel throughout the assigned region

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in earth science, horticulture, geology, forestry, natural resources or similar field, or equivalent experience
  • Typically two or more years in tree trimming, arborist work, nursery work or related field
  • Experience including vendor management and project management
  • ISA Arborist certification required at hire
  • ISA Certified Utility Arborist certification required within six months of obtaining the position
  • Oregon pesticide consultant certification required within six months of obtaining the position
  • Intermediate knowledge of forestry processes and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of forestry best practices, including tree trimming and herbicide/pesticide application
  • Thorough knowledge of regulations impacting vegetation management
  • Working knowledge of vendor management principles
  • Skills using database and documentation tools
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work long hours, variable and shift schedules, and on-call rotations
  • Ability to work Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–3:30 pm standard schedule
  • Ability to work during severe inclement weather and company emergencies
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable, predictable, full-time attendance
  • Ability to travel daily within the service territory and occasionally overnight
  • Ability to use a computer for an entire work shift
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to work on unstable surfaces, elevated areas, long distances over rough terrain, stairs, and ladders
