About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, implement and oversee safety programs protecting employees, contractors and the public
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards and regulations
- Support line operations in Wilsonville, Beaverton and Hillsboro by rotating daily to lead 7:00 a.m. safety meetings
- Work Monday–Friday, 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m., except during incident management team activation
- Participate in 24/7 safety duty phone coverage approximately once every five weeks
- Conduct safety risk analysis during project constructability reviews and construction planning
- Evaluate contractor RFPs, bidder qualifications, bids and contractor selection
- Conduct routine and complex investigations, incident reviews and root-cause analyses
- Develop reports, analyze trends, and prepare and present communications
- Coordinate follow-up action items related to reports and investigations
- Lead process-improvement projects and benchmarking efforts
- Develop and administer safety programs, guidelines and initiatives
- Integrate industry best practices and continuously improve interactive safety programs with contractors
- Serve as a subject-matter expert to managers and employees
- Design and deliver safety education programs for managers, employees and community organizations
- Lead special projects and facilitate safety meetings and processes
- Potentially lead emergency and incident response
- Improve communication with contractors to share and operationalize safety best practices
- Respond to regulator information requests and prepare legally required filings and reports
- Analyze regulatory changes and implement appropriate actions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in science, business, human resources or another related field, or equivalent experience
- Typically five or more years in professional safety and/or electric generation, transmission and distribution operations; depending on position, drug and alcohol or ergonomic program management
- Candidates with 2–5 years at the professional level 2 may be considered, with less complex duties and more supervision
- Intermediate knowledge of employment laws related to the discipline
- Intermediate knowledge of PGE policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements and benefit plans
- Intermediate knowledge of industry best practices
- Intermediate project management skills

- Intermediate facilitation, presentation, systems, program and data-retrieval skills
- Advanced customer focus and safety leadership skills

- Valid driver’s license and history of safe driving practices
- Ability to travel frequently within the service territory and occasionally overnight inside or outside the service territory
- Ability to work with computers throughout the work shift
- Ability to lift, push, pull or carry up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to work on elevated or unstable surfaces, in confined spaces, over long distances and rough terrain, and on stairs and ladders
- Journeyman card or equivalent trade or operator qualification preferred
- CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, CUSP or COSS certification preferred depending on position
