About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and deploy management monitoring reports for financial, membership, contract, and fulfillment production
- Manage underwriting, pricing, and/or contracting activities to ensure adequate rates and policy provisions
- Manage underwriting processes to meet or exceed turnaround goals
- Recruit, hire, train, and manage high-quality underwriting teams
- Manage the performance appraisal process
- Manage budgets for assigned cost centers
- Serve as the primary Premera contact for underwriting policy information
- Support sales and account management teams in presentations and negotiations
- Develop and maintain pricing data and contract generation systems
- Support senior management in sustaining policies and procedures and formulating work-unit strategy
- Monitor and review internal data for accuracy, identify problems, and develop solutions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field of study, or 4 years of work experience
- 5 years of underwriting, regulatory, or health insurance consulting experience
- Previous underwriting experience
- Demonstrated track record in providing leadership in complex business cases and/or projects
- Substantial knowledge of the health insurance industry and of the group administration and/or underwriting function within an insurance carrier setting
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
- Ability to assess market conditions and recommend contract and underwriting improvements
- Ability to perform essential physical requirements with or without accommodation, including sedentary work and exerting up to 10 lbs. of force
- Ability to keyboard and communicate clearly and understandably in person and over the telephone
