About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Clean, dust, and polish cabinets, furniture, lockers, and woodwork while following safety and infection-control protocols
- Clean stairwells, hallways, rest rooms, offices, and cells, including removing mattresses and trash
- Clean walls, ceilings, baseboards, floors, doors, blinds, ledges, vents, toilets, fixtures, shelves, furniture, privacy stalls, windows, and light fixtures
- Empty and clean waste receptacles; vacuum floors; assist with moving and arranging furniture and equipment
- Disinfect and sanitize areas; stock and refill bathroom paper, sanitary, and soap-product dispensers
- Select proper cleaning materials and supplies for daily tasks
- Read, interpret, and follow material safety data sheets and chemical-product directions
- Perform scheduled pickups of trash and biohazard waste bins
- Work any shift and schedule throughout the hospital; work overtime and float to other locations as operationally needed
- Maintain the storage closet
- Respond to environmental emergencies and requests for assistance
- Communicate with guards and staff
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience in custodial work in a hospital setting preferred
- Ability to learn methods of cleaning and caring for hospital facilities
- Ability to read and follow written instructions on labels for proper and safe use of chemicals, supplies and equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively and present information and respond to questions from clients, customers and others
- Human relations skills to build effective working relationships with staff, customers, and others
- Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to maneuver in and around the worksite
- Ability to stand and walk
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and stoop
- Ability to lift boxes or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to push or pull objects such as vacuums, carts, and mops
- May be required to push/pull equipment weighing up to 70 pounds
- Ability to grasp small and large objects
- Ability to climb ladders and/or step stools
- Ability to work in a prison healthcare facility with security and environmental-control protocols
- Ability to work in confined spaces and aseptic areas with exposure to dirt, dust, odors, toxic chemicals, and infectious disease
- Ability to work in high-security areas and variable weather conditions
