About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee treatment, collection, distribution, and daily operations of water plant facilities
- Plan and develop work schedules, equipment usage schedules, and systems maintenance procedures
- Ensure plant and operators comply with federal, state, and local regulations through operational testing and meticulous recordkeeping
- Supervise employees, including hiring, training, development, counseling, and performance reviews
- Establish and maintain communication with federal agencies, customers, and local councils
- Ensure budgetary guidelines are met and assist with capital and operations budgets
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure equipment is in proper working condition
- Develop, maintain, and submit regulatory compliance reports
- Act as a technical resource to field personnel and engage in field issues
- Review work in progress and completed work for compliance with instructions
- Participate in departmental and other meetings
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
- Work at customer locations in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environments; may drive between worksites and encounter hazardous substances, electrical shock, equipment noise, and varying weather conditions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Seven years of experience in water plant operations, including five years in a supervisory role
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable water regulations
- Familiarity with Federal, State and Local Rules and Regulations pertaining to public water systems
- Skill in estimating time and materials common to the trade
- Ability to develop capital projects to improve plant operations, treatment methods, and equipment
- Supervisory skills, including hiring, professional development, performance management, disciplinary processes, and employee relations
- Ability to supervise and develop teams while meeting production/service goals and adhering to safety policies
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentations and responding to inquiries
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Human relations skills to build effective relationships with team, customers, and the public
- Advanced computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software
- Knowledge of business English, including vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Mathematical skills involving fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
- Ability to establish priorities and solve business, operational, and strategic management problems
- Flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Public Water Treatment System NJ T-4 license (required)
- Public Water Distribution System NJ W-2 license (required)
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to monitor gauges, controls, and computer systems
- Ability to lift materials up to 35 pounds, bend and stoop, and climb ladders
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred; combination of education and relevant experience considered
