About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Safely and effectively operate horizontal directional drilling equipment and other heavy equipment used in underground utility construction
- Perform locating duties to support accurate and safe drilling operations
- Assist with installation of underground natural gas pipelines
- Follow established safety procedures, utility construction standards, and project specifications
- Read and interpret applicable standards, schematics, and construction plans
- Collaborate with crew members to complete projects safely and efficiently
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support daily crew operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Willingness to work overtime based on project demands
- Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to read and interpret construction standards and schematics
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship
- Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) experience preferred
- Backhoe and/or mini excavator operation preferred
- Construction experience in natural gas, electric, or other utility distribution systems preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating excavation equipment in the utility industry
- Class A CDL with tanker endorsement and appropriate qualifications to operate manual-transmission commercial vehicles
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including on uneven ground surfaces
- Ability to perform bending, turning, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work safely in elevated-noise, changing-ground-condition, and traffic environments
- Candidates are subject to applicable drug testing requirements
