About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the end-to-end narrative for the product, from high-level op-eds to product launch announcements
- Build and maintain relationships with defense trade, national security, and technology journalists
- Secure high-value media placements
- Prepare leadership for interviews, speaking engagements, and industry demonstrations
- Shape positioning with Hill staff, lobbying firms, think tanks, and the policy community
- Collaborate with marketing, growth, and engineering teams on multichannel campaigns
- Highlight mission impact at events such as SOF Week or AUSA
- Keep the growing team aligned on company messaging, news, and external communications policies
- Work closely with the Marketing Director to maintain consistent messaging across channels
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years in strategic communications, PR, or journalism, specifically within the defense, aerospace, or deep tech sectors
- Ability to translate technical language into clear, mission-focused content for non-technical audiences
- Mastery of AP Style
- Track record of crafting tight, memorable narratives under tight deadlines
- Demonstrated success pitching stories and managing complex media inquiries in a highly regulated industry
- Active Secret or higher security clearance is a major plus
- Experience working as or with a Military Public Affairs Officer (PAO), or deep understanding of DoD structure
- Experience in a fast-paced build-fast startup environment
- Basic proficiency in Figma, Canva, or Adobe Creative Suite
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Current residency within the United States required
- Permanent Residency or visa sponsorship cannot satisfy the regulatory requirements
- Portfolio of 2–3 case studies or past work pieces demonstrating strategic thinking, messaging skills, and execution across media relations, executive communications, or product announcements
