About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise, schedule, assign, prioritize, and monitor daily work of maintenance employees across electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general maintenance trades
  • Provide leadership, coaching, technical guidance, training, and performance feedback to assigned staff
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, employee development, and performance management
  • Plan and coordinate preventative maintenance, repairs, work orders, and emergency response
  • Serve as the department’s primary electrical resource
  • Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting, repair, installation, and code-compliance work
  • Maintain and repair electrical systems, motors, controls, transformers, lighting systems, generators, switchgear, and related equipment
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications
  • Ensure maintenance and installation work complies with electrical, building, and safety codes
  • Oversee employees, contractors, and vendors working on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical systems, and specialized trades
  • Inspect completed work for compliance with specifications, codes, safety standards, and Principia expectations
  • Maintain records on maintenance activities, projects, labor, materials, and contractor performance
  • Assist with facilities planning, budgeting, energy management, asset preservation, and infrastructure improvements
  • Participate in on-call, evening, weekend, and emergency response activities as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Supportive of Principia’s guiding statements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program, trade school program, or equivalent combination of technical education and training
  • Current St. Louis County Electrical License required
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible commercial, institutional, industrial, or facilities electrical experience required
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory, lead, project management, or contractor oversight experience
  • Experience in educational, higher education, healthcare, institutional, or campus facility environments preferred
  • Experience with HVAC systems, plumbing systems, building automation systems, or energy management systems preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation practices, maintenance procedures, and applicable electrical and safety codes
  • Experience coordinating maintenance, renovation, repair, or contractor-performed projects
  • Experience working with contractors, vendors, and outside service providers
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, construction documents, and technical specifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet Principia requirements for operating institution-owned vehicles
  • Ability to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs and, with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment weighing in excess of 200 lbs
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and from ladders, scaffolding, or elevated equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in high heat, humidity, or below freezing temperatures
