About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide and coordinate advanced nursing care in a specialty ambulatory gastroenterology setting
  • Provide direct nursing care within established policies, procedures, protocols, regulatory scope of practice, and Board of Nursing requirements
  • Develop individualized plans of care addressing patients’ physical, emotional, cultural, spiritual, psychosocial, and educational needs
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of gastroenterology disease entities, medications, treatments, specialized procedures, tools, and monitoring
  • Perform or assist with specialty procedures and manage complex treatments
  • Conduct in-depth specialty assessments and monitoring, including specialized diagnostic tests
  • Administer prescribed medications and provide specialized treatments
  • Coordinate and document patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety
  • Delegate tasks according to patient needs and team-member capabilities and qualifications
  • Communicate patient conditions and concerns to healthcare team members
  • Educate patients and families on post-visit self-care and health-related decisions
  • Mentor and educate care-team members; may serve as a preceptor or unit champion
  • Attend department and organization meetings and complete compliance training
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and caring environment
  • Participate in professional development, continuing education, and shared governance as applicable
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
  • One (1) year of clinical nursing experience within specialty or related applicable specialty
  • Current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State, or license to practice as an RN in the state where working
  • RN diploma or certificate accepted in lieu of an associate’s degree with the required current RN license
  • One (1) year of LPN experience may be accepted in lieu of one (1) year of registered nurse experience
  • Certification in specialty area preferred
  • IV insertion and maintenance skills preferred
  • Knowledge of and compliance with applicable nursing standards, regulations, policies, procedures, and infection-control and safety protocols
