About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Treat patients according to physician orders and departmental policy
  • Work independently in intensive care units and critical care settings
  • Consult with physicians and other personnel and recommend appropriate treatments
  • Perform general and critical care respiratory therapy procedures
  • Initiate, monitor, and manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation
  • Initiate and manage airways and associated equipment
  • Obtain, analyze, and report blood gas results
  • Document and charge for respiratory care procedures and tasks
  • Provide patient and family education
  • Communicate with healthcare team members, students, and nurse shadows
  • Provide accurate and complete reports and communicate with supervisors and coordinators
  • Follow infection control and quality initiatives
  • Clean and disinfect equipment between patients
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate degree
  • Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state in which work is performed
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • BLS certification
  • NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS certifications must be obtained and maintained as required by the work unit
  • Skills necessary to treat neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • In lieu of the stated education and experience, diploma and/or equivalent experience may be considered
