About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, own and execute the organization’s property tax strategy aligned with overall organizational goals
- Lead onsite and offshore property tax teams, overseeing performance, deliverables, engagement, and career development
- Lead property tax budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with FP&A and accounting leaders
- Oversee property tax payments, identifying discounts and favorable payment terms while avoiding penalties and liens
- Manage property valuation and appeals processes with appeal vendors, tax authorities, and internal stakeholders
- Oversee parent company requests related to securitizations, valuation, underwriting, and ad hoc analyses
- Manage third-party vendors supporting valuation and tax payment activities
- Support vendor management and finance leadership during property tax vendor contract negotiations
- Integrate property tax records and processes with accounting systems for accurate reporting and data management
- Maintain advanced record-keeping systems and databases for property tax analysis and decision-making
- Identify opportunities to improve property tax processes through automation and AI
- Partner with IT and technology teams to develop and implement efficient, scalable tools and systems
- Document property tax processes, procedures, and key controls to support knowledge transfer and mitigate key-person risk
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five years’ relevant tax experience, with a focus on property tax and a strong foundation in accounting principles
- Professional coursework, certifications, or designations in real estate valuation and/or taxation (IPT CMI designation) preferred
- Expertise in ad valorem taxation, real estate valuation, and property tax administration
- Ability to manage multiple appeals across various jurisdictions while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret complex financial, tax, and technical information, draw sound conclusions, and develop practical business solutions
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to influence outcomes and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing business needs
- Experience leading projects, managing cross-functional initiatives, and identifying and implementing process improvements
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present complex information clearly and build effective relationships with executives, business partners, and external stakeholders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and database tools
- Ability to leverage technology to improve efficiency and support business objectives
- Satisfactory background and drug screen required for employment
