About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the monthly close process and ensure accounting transactions are recorded in the appropriate accounting period
- Prepare property tax and vendor accrual journal entries
- Participate in the month-end close process and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness
- Review and prepare property tax payment journal entries
- Prepare cash journal entries related to tax payments and refunds
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations following the month-end close process
- Assist with processing manual property tax checks as needed
- Support interim and annual financial audits by providing requested documentation and analyses
- Maintain, develop, and improve reports such as data tapes for management reporting needs
- Draft, update, and maintain SOPs for property tax accounting and reporting processes
- Conduct special projects and perform financial analysis and accounting research as requested by management
- Collaborate with internal departments to obtain and provide information for property tax reporting and compliance activities
- Gather, analyze, and communicate information related to property tax accounting, reporting, and compliance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- One to three years of accounting experience is preferred
- Experience in property tax accounting is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of state and local property tax regulations, schedules, and reporting requirements is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis techniques
- Experience with accounting ERP systems; experience with Yardi is preferred
- Knowledge of accounting principles, including accruals, prepaids, and general ledger accounting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines
- Reliable, dependable, and committed to maintaining confidentiality and professional standards
- Ability to perform duties in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and ethical standards
- Satisfactory background and drug screen required as a condition of employment
