About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide personalized academic advising to adult students
  • Help students select appropriate courses, create and maintain degree plans, and understand degree requirements
  • Use coaching principles and strategies to promote student self-awareness and inspire action
  • Collaborate with students to identify educational and career goals and create roadmaps for success
  • Monitor student progress
  • Provide guidance and resources to improve study skills, time management, and organizational techniques
  • Address adult students’ work-life balance, time constraints, and financial concerns through tailored solutions and referrals
  • Help students navigate libraries, tutoring, wellness resources, and other support services
  • Encourage exploration of career pathways and resources
  • Identify at-risk students, develop intervention plans, and conduct outreach to re-engage and retain adult learners
  • Analyze and interpret data to support students and improve student success
  • Prepare for, attend, and contribute to internal and partner institution meetings
  • Ensure confidentiality of student information
  • Adhere to appropriate security policies for restricted student data
  • Report security-related issues
  • Ensure institutional data is appropriate, accurate, and timely

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related field
  • At least 2 years of experience working in academic advising or related student support services with adult students in an online higher education setting
  • Demonstrated experience coaching individuals, particularly in an educational or support context, to enhance their academic and personal development
  • Knowledge of the challenges and needs specific to adult learners in higher education
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, CRM, LMS, SIS platforms and other technologies used in online higher education and student management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with adult students
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Knowledge of relevant academic policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to operate with agility and resilience in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Certification in Academic or Success Coaching or a related coaching discipline preferred
  • Ability to work normal business hours and non-traditional evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to work a flexible, changing schedule
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
