Reference Library Assistant – PT

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide library services supporting the Adult & Teen Services department
- Assist in providing interlibrary loan services to library patrons
- Communicate with and assist library patrons
- Perform data entry
- Handle user accounts
- Handle incoming interlibrary loan mail
- Process interlibrary loan borrowing and lending materials and requests
- Package and prepare materials for shipment
- Meter and mail outgoing interlibrary loan mail
- Correspond with library patrons via phone and email
- Accept and handle cash in conformance with approved procedures
- Sort donations and delete items from the library's database
- Perform miscellaneous clerical functions
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Library experience preferred
- Strong public relations skills desired
- Assistant I: Six months of job-related experience
- Assistant II: One year of experience as a Library Assistant I OR 1.5 years of comparable experience (including 20 hours in reference)
- Ability to perform long periods of computer work
- Ability to lift and carry books and push book trucks
- Ability to work in an open area
- High level of concentration for detailed work
- If selected for hire, must successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check
