About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and produce construction documents for utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects of 50 MW and larger
  • Support the design and engineering of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects under senior engineer guidance
  • Develop system layouts, equipment selections, technical specifications, single-line and three-line diagrams
  • Perform medium-voltage AC and DC cable sizing and routing
  • Design SCADA, communication, grounding, protection, control, and wiring systems
  • Develop underground collection system and trench layouts
  • Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, cable ampacity, conduit fill, and equipment loading
  • Prepare complete construction drawing packages using AutoCAD
  • Coordinate with internal project teams, clients, utilities, permitting agencies, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and consultants
  • Support construction through RFI responses, equipment submittal reviews, field issue research, and site visits
  • Manage multiple project tasks and communicate progress, questions, and priorities
  • Ensure designs comply with codes, industry standards, client requirements, safety policies, and company quality procedures
  • Participate in design reviews and QA/QC processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 1–3 years of relevant internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience related to electrical engineering, solar PV, power systems, or renewable energy
  • Exposure to AutoCAD or similar drafting/design software
  • Basic familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical safety concepts, and applicable industry standards
  • Foundational understanding of electrical circuits, power systems, and engineering design principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, follow direction, and communicate workload or schedule risks early
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and other engineering documentation
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or interest in pursuing professional licensure
  • Experience with solar PV, BESS, power systems, or renewable energy projects
  • Experience designing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Familiarity with PVSyst, CYMCAP, ETAP, or similar engineering software
  • Exposure to electrical studies such as cable ampacity, voltage drop, grounding, short-circuit, or load flow analyses
  • Interest in utility interconnection requirements and utility-scale project development
  • NABCEP certification
