About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the design and engineering of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects under senior engineer guidance
  • Perform overall system layouts
  • Select equipment and prepare technical specifications
  • Develop single-line and three-line diagrams
  • Size and route medium-voltage AC and DC cables
  • Design SCADA and communication systems
  • Design grounding systems
  • Prepare protection, control, and wiring diagrams
  • Develop underground collection system and trench layouts
  • Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, cable ampacity, conduit fill, equipment loading, and related analyses
  • Prepare complete construction drawing packages using AutoCAD
  • Coordinate with internal project teams and communicate with clients, utilities, permitting agencies, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and consultants
  • Support construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing equipment submittals, researching field issues, and participating in site visits
  • Balance multiple project tasks and communicate progress, questions, and priorities
  • Develop practical design solutions with support from senior engineers and project managers
  • Ensure designs comply with codes, industry standards, client requirements, and company quality procedures
  • Maintain compliance with safety policies and regulatory standards
  • Participate in design reviews and QA/QC processes
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 1-3 years of relevant internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience related to electrical engineering, solar PV, power systems, or renewable energy
  • Exposure to AutoCAD or similar drafting/design software
  • Basic familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical safety concepts, and applicable industry standards
  • Foundational understanding of electrical circuits, power systems, and engineering design principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, follow direction, and communicate workload or schedule risks early
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and other engineering documentation
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or interest in pursuing professional licensure preferred
  • Experience with construction documents, layer management, Xrefs, blocks, plotting, or file management preferred
  • Experience designing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) preferred
  • Familiarity with PVSyst, CYMCAP, ETAP, or similar engineering software preferred
  • Exposure to electrical studies such as cable ampacity, voltage drop, grounding, short-circuit, or load flow analyses preferred
  • NABCEP certification preferred
