About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop overall conceptual design plans in the initial development phase of new projects
- Design and detail mat and pier type foundations for substation structures
- Design substation structures ranging from simple equipment supports to overhead line towers
- Complete substation designs as necessary, including general arrangements, equipment and electrical layouts, elevation views, grading and fence plans, foundation plans and details, rigid bus arrangements, structure details, and bills of material
- Work with renewable energy developers and other clients on schedules and cost estimates
- Design foundations using commercially available software such as LPILE
- Develop steel structure models for rigid bus and equipment supports
- Perform company Quality Assurance/Quality Control processes
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with external business partners
- Present information and respond to client questions
- Participate in client meetings and job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data
- Mentor less experienced staff on technical and project management skills
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelors of Science or Masters in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
- 1-2 years of experience performing civil structural engineering calculations
- Experience with drafting programs such as AutoCAD and MicroStation is a plus
- Experience in transmission, distribution and generating stations is a plus
- Strong analytical and computer skills
- Ability to identify necessary software to complete needed design work
