About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, specify, calculate settings for, and coordinate protective relaying and relay control schemes
  • Model short circuit and overstressed breaker studies
  • Develop protective relaying recommendations for proposed generation interconnections to clients’ electrical systems
  • Ensure relay settings activities, initiatives, and processes conform to company policies, objectives, and client design standards
  • Present technical solutions to key customers, respond to technical concerns in real time, and answer questions
  • Collaborate with Qualus groups and individuals to develop and implement technical solutions supporting Engineering Department objectives
  • Work on project teams supporting quality and project management goals
  • Meet project deadlines and support processes and procedures for deadline achievement
  • Maintain current technical skills in electrical substation design and protection and control schematics through on-the-job work and formal training
  • Apply test procedures for various relay test equipment
  • Identify process improvement ideas and communicate them through appropriate management channels
  • Participate in Qualus University’s 2027 Engineering Boot Camp beginning July 2027

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with a focus on power systems
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Microsoft Office product application
  • Experience with ASPEN or CAPE software is a plus
  • Educational experience directly related to working with medium to high voltage electricity is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and accurately, with high attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and ability to discuss technical recommendations with customers
  • Strong computer skills
  • Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment
  • Good PC skills and ability to support testing activities as required by the project lead
  • Substation awareness and safety consciousness
