About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Contribute to structural design, technical support, and quality assurance/quality control reviews for substation facilities, transmission towers and poles, control rooms, and indoor GIS switchgear buildings
  • Perform structural analysis and modeling using SAP2000, LPILE, SAFE, and MathCAD
  • Prepare and review detailed design documents, including design bases, design reports, design plans, construction specifications, and field review plans and reports
  • Review vendor documents against specifications
  • Respond to construction-site requests and complete project documentation, including as-builts and calculations
  • Coordinate and oversee resource planning, scope, schedule, and budget for a structural discipline project team
  • Maintain relationships with external business partners and present information to clients
  • Participate in client meetings and job-site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data
  • Mentor less experienced engineering team members
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines for integrated project delivery

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Structural Engineering Degree from a recognized university
  • Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
  • 5–8 years of structural engineering design experience
  • Experience with structural design for utility substations, particularly projects for BC Hydro, is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of applicable Canadian codes and standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and CSA standards
  • Knowledge of North American transmission structure design standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
