About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Update client electrical drawings, including one-lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics, using AutoCAD or Bluebeam PDF Markups
  • Collect field data and perform arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies using SKM, ETAP, and/or EasyPower
  • Perform additional studies and services including Load Flow, Harmonics, Grounding, Motor Starting, Buried Cable Heat Rise, Infrared Scanning, and LOTO Creation
  • Apply knowledge of low- and medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, circuit breakers, panel boards, and disconnects to determine cost-effective mitigation solutions
  • Develop relay protective setpoints and settings files
  • Develop and/or implement arc flash mitigation designs
  • Develop study reports and communicate results and recommendations to customers
  • Support field service teams on electrical testing projects
  • Support the supervisor with workload planning, forecasting engineering requirements, and training schedules
  • Present study findings to customers and answer questions
  • Adhere to company, industry, client, and safety protocols and standards
  • Assess project resource needs and coordinate assignments with project managers
  • Learn to oversee projects from start to finish in compliance with company practices and procedures
  • Manage expenses against project budgets and recommend expense reductions
  • Coordinate project handoffs between sales and operations/engineering
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings covering scope, specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements
  • Coordinate activities with other departments
  • Execute medium- to large-sized projects with limited oversight
  • Ensure timely and accurate engineering project invoicing and submit required paperwork, including SAFs, weekly timekeeping, change orders, test reports, and other deliverables
  • Maintain required project documentation and records

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering OR Electrical Engineering Technologist Certification
  • 3+ years of experience in power systems engineering or experience directly related to working with electricity
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal, client and regulatory counterparts
  • Ability to maintain production in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of CEC/OESC, Z462 and other applicable codes and standards
  • Strong computer and communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with at least one power engineering study software: SKM/PTW, ETAP, Easy Power, or equivalent
  • Willingness to learn and operate client-provided programs and systems
  • Ability to carry out written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables
  • Ability to perform computations involving electrical power
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and identify urgent issues
  • Ability to develop project plans, order resources and materials, hold job kickoff meetings, and identify changes in work scopes
  • Ability to examine information, facts, and data and draw logical conclusions
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple project assignments simultaneously

  • Must be able to meet international travel and work requirements associated with the role, including frequent work in the United States
  • Must be able to travel 30% of the time
